Situated in the middle of a rainforest and surrounded by mountains is the town of Cairns. Being quite far from pretty much everywhere, the ideal way to get to Cairns is via plane (just don’t do what I did and forget to add baggage allowance as you will find yourself $80 lighter!) otherwise your looking at a fairly long bus journey.

Sydney to Melbourne Roadtrip
With the weather epically wet up the east coast, I decided to follow the sun to Melbourne with a couple of friends I made at the hostel at glebe. One of the main things you learn being a backpacker is that everything (and I mean everything) has to be financially justified, so obviously a quick road trip to Melbourne had to be done on the cheap

Arrived in Sydney
Getting to Sydney was a bit of a kafuffle, from the very off they wouldn’t check me into my flight as the ETA (a fee you pay to get into Ozzy) didn’t show up as paid… so that was me $50SGD before I had even left Singapore! But after that it was pretty much smooth running… well all apart from the shuttle bus which took us to our hostel, trying to get us booked on to one of those bad boys was hard work! But after a lot of walking a backwards and forwards it was sorted and we arrived at our hostel.

Australian Ticket is officially purchased… Sydney to Cairns here I come!
